Mehreen aged five (5) years lives with his parents in a small house in Qayumabad. Her mother works as cleaner /helper in D.H.A. houses and father works at Chawkidar. While her mother was busy cooking food in the courtyard, Mehreen took the match box in the adjoining room and started playing with it. When she lit a stick her silken shirt caught fire. She did not scream at first out of fear and tried herself to put off the fire but did not succeed. She finally screamed and fainted. Her mother came running and put off the fire and rushed to the Primary Health, Mother & Child Healthcare Centre run by Children Health & Education Foundation at Qayumabad.

Mahreen was badly burnt on chest, belly and both her hands. Her wounds were cleaned and disinfected and provided first aid. Her mother was advised to immediately take her to Burns ward at Civil Hospital Karachi for further treatment. Now after two months Mahreen is healthy with only some scars left on her belly.

CHAEF after establishing full fledged mother and child health care facility has come across some wonderful and strange incidents.

A Poor pregnant women, Gulnar Bibi aged about 25 years, resident of Hijrat Colony, near our Primary Health Care Centre at Sultanabad first time visited with acute abdominal pain and fever. She was thoroughly examined by our gynecologist and on ultrasound examination was found carrying a five months old (IUD) dead baby. The woman was in pain but when told of the dead baby, she smiled and said to Doctor not to bother as she already has three sons.

The Doctor, however, provided her diagnosis and ultrasound report and referred her to JMPC for immediate D & C and other treatment.

Later Gulnar Bibi came and thanked the doctor for saving her life, by timely reference to JPMC.
